When I’m checking out music or trying to stay up on artists, it’s especially satisfying to run across someone who makes beautiful music and is a nice person, too!

Last year, I had the serendipitous good fortune to see UK singer/songwriter Sarah McQuaid. Not only did I get to see her perform at the On the Tracks Songwriter Showcase Series in Chelsea, Michigan, (and open the door for further exploration not only at that series but other Chelsea venues like the Rumpus Room and the Chelsea Alehouse!) but I also had the opportunity to interview her on my “Theme Attic” show heard Wednesdays from 10A-12 Noon EDT!

As I grew more familiar with her back catalogue, Sarah didn’t stand still and managed to receive a Lifetime achievement award from Ards and North Down Borough Council in Ireland! It is given out every year at the annual Ards International Guitar Festival. She is the first woman to ever receive the award!

Now Miss McQuaid may look young—and she is! But she has also done musical work in other areas. She has written a book about the special guitar tuning that she uses, and is currently working on a new book as well as a new album to prepare for her next world tour in 2018!

I like to think of Sarah McQuaid as having a crystal clear voice that makes one feel as calm as an alpine lake on a summer morning! Now, that’s my opinion on her singing.

But I love the quote that Emily Crawford, co-director of the festival said after handing out the award:

She and her guitar become one beautiful sound.”

Ernie McMillen, another co-director along with Darren Porter, had this amazing description:

I get to see many specialist guitarists up close, and many over-perform. It’s honey for the soul to witness Sarah McQuaid perform.”

Playing to and within the context of the song! For me, it doesn’t get any better than that!

CONGRATULATIONS SARAH MCQUAID!!!
