Phil’s Faves: Songs, December 11, 2011

This will be a personal weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.
Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Perseverance pays off as Lady Antebellum finally hits the top! Eric Church makes the good list, too! Maybe it’s the time of the year because another Christmas song enters as well as another Taylor Swift song! Another Taylor Swift song??!!! Can the world handle it……………………..

Top Ten Songs for the Week of December 11, 2011

1. We Owned the Night–Lady Antebellum
2. Paradise–Coldplay
3. Lonely Boy—The Black Keys
4. Sparks Fly–Taylor Swift
5. The Trouble With Girls—Scotty McCreery
6. Ours—Taylor Swift
7. Drink in My Hand—Eric Church
8. Santa You Can Drive My Sled—The Fab (Beatles Tribute Band from Las Vegas)
9. (I Want To) Come Home–Paul McCartney (From the movie “Everybody’s Fine”)
10. Very Merry Christmas—Dave Barnes

1) “We Owned the Night”Their long run finally ends at the top! This is the song I probably hear the most right now, and it worked its magic on me!
2) “Paradise”
—A very low key song that just sounds so nice!
3) “Lonely Boy”This one rocks about as hard as anything The Black Keys have ever done!
4) “Sparks Fly”
Taylor moves up another notch again! Is it set to slingshot to the top again………………
5) “The Trouble With Girls”Such a sweet song about the trouble that most guys hope for………….
6) “Ours”
—Another catchy melody from Miss Swift! Watch out……………….
7) “Drink in My Hand”Hey! What do you know? A song by Eric Church I do like! And considering he’s covering subject matter that’s like a rutted road where the drive shaft scrapes the ground, that’s saying a lot!
8)“Santa You Can Drive My Sled”
I am excited to say that I received a personal copy of this song, a satire of The Beatles’ “Drive My Car,” from The Fab! Santa came early and I can listen to it as much as I want to during the holiday season! Thank you guys and better fasten your seat belts. This sled is pointed forward and ready to move up! Look what they just did on my list: They moved up in front of an actual Beatle! “That would be something/Really would be something………………..!”
9) (“I Want To) Come Home”It looks like this chart ride is almost finished. I’m sure it won’t be long until Paul returns…………….
10) “Very Merry Christmas”
—This is a very cool and slinky little Christmas tune that sneaks up on you! It sounds like it came out of the 70’s instead of last year. A good Christmas doesn’t have to be about some fantastical story. A good chorus and honest feelings works just fine!
