Phils Faves: Songs, November 27, 2011

This will be a personal weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.
Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Not much action this week as my current favorites continue on as my favorites! Paul McCartney stays at the top for another week.  Keith Urban is the only new entry as he nudges onto the list………………

Top Ten Songs for the Week of November 27, 2011

1. (I Want To) Come Home–Paul McCartney (From the movie “Everybody’s Fine”)
2. We Owned the Night–Lady Antebellum
3. Blood Pressure–Mutemath
4. A Thousand Years—Christina Perri from “Breaking Dawn, Part One”
5. Paradise–Coldplay
6. Sparks Fly–Taylor Swift
7. Down at the Plaza–Pat Bergeson (featuring Dan Anderson, Tom Roady, and Steve Shapiro)
8. The Trouble With Girls—Scotty McCreery
9. Long Hot Summer-Keith Urban
10. Red Solo Cup–Toby Keith

1) (“I Want To) Come Home”—This song seemed so appropriate for the Thanksgiving weekend!
2) “We Owned the Night”—I think this one is continuing to grow on me!
3) “Blood Pressure”—I don’t think this one is getting the recognition it deserves! Sadly, maybe no one wants to “rock out” like they used to…………
4) “A Thousand Years”—Still strong and growing as one of my favorites!
5) “Paradise”—This one is really getting to me! Watch out!
6) “Sparks Fly”Taylor moves up a notch again! It’s like an “old reliable” song!
7) “Down at the Plaza”—I’m sorry to say that Tom Roady, the drummer on “Hippy Dance,” the CD that this song is from, passed away this week. He played for so many artists on so many records (everyone from James Brown to Bob Seeger), that you know him even if you don’t “know” him. I was just starting to know him and I will miss him every time I discover something that he played on but never knew it……………………..
8) “The Trouble With Girls”—Nice dreamy melody! See, I don’t dislike him. He even gets a smiley face this week………………………….
9) “Long Hot Summer”—This song has been around for quite awhile, and it finally got to me this week!
10) “Red Solo Cup”—A nice little ditty about a man and his cup fixation………………………
