An incredible event takes place today at the Eighth Annual Pumpstock which describes itself as an “American Roots Music Festival!” Through some scheduling wizardry, the gathering will include four multiple Philby Award winners of which two have won the Philby Album of the Year!
Annie and Rod Capps are the first winners that will take the stage. They’re coming off their wonderful complete album performance of “In This Town” at The Ark in Ann Arbor. The wife and husband duo have been entertaining audiences for years with Annie’s clear vocals and Rod’s multi instrument hot licks!
Nora Jane Struthers and The Party Line have been a touring juggernaut for the past few years delivering beautiful harmonies and a fun atmosphere with one of the tightest bands out there! The band won the 2015 Philby Album Award with “Wake.”
The closing act is Phil Lee, affectionately known as “The Mighty King of Love.” Phil is a Nashville outlaw and scalawag who writes in many different styles and has a reputation for his live performances!
In Phil’s band will be Jan King, 2014 Philby Album Award winner for “Dime!” She will be featured on lead guitar.
Since the Philby Awards honor all styles of music, all of these artists are incredible “roots” artists, but they are also playing some of the best music available!
Pumpstock starts at 2PM and has more artists than the Philby winners named, but who knows when the heavens will align to provide such a wealth of winners!!!
