The Most Awesomest Song of the Day: “Sinking Feeling” by The Hangabouts with Molly Felder!!!

I have started a new feature: The Most Awesomest Song of the Day!

Here’s a link to the complete list: https://philmaq.com/most-awesomest-songs/

I want to emphasize mostly, relatively newer music, just like on my Monday night show, “Prime Time Theme Attic.” (Monday nights 8PM-10PM ET when it returns.)

Here’s the link for when that day comes: http://rdo.fm/r/4qntu )

But I can promise this: I will not force my selections. If something doesn’t hit me, I won’t post one.

Everything I do has always been about shining a spotlight on the artist and their music.

Now I will have the potential to shine 365 more spotlights if I want to!

Please share the post to help spread the word!

Regardless of everything going on in the world that is way more important than my daily post, I will continue, nonetheless, in case someone is looking for a few minutes of respite.

Tonight is the Full Moon known as the Strawberry Moon.

Every year for the past several years, I have played a really nice duet by multiple Philby Award winners, The Hangabouts featuring vocals by Greg Addington, with help from Molly Felder of Swan Dive, on their “Kits and Cats and Saxon Wives Album!” (Futureman Records)

“Sinking Feeling” has a line that references a strawberry moon as well as Boblo Island.

I can’t think of another song that mentions the island, which-at one time, featured a fairly large amusement park that you had to take a boat on the Detroit River to get to.

When I was a kid my older brothers would take me into the extremely loud engine room section, which always scared the hell out of me!

Yeah. Good times!

Therefore, the song has a bittersweet romantic memory for the lead singers, as well as some childhood memories that I can’t revisit.

There are some really nice touches in the arrangement!

The guitar sounds like it’s under water for that “Sinking Feeling” effect!

In the instrumental sections, there are some very nice “Strawberry Fields” keyboard phrases as well as some low key shimmering vibes!

Everything about the song melds together beautifully!

The Most Awesomest Song of the Day is “Sinking Feeling” by The Hangabouts with Molly Felder!!!

As a strawberry bonus, I always played “Strawberry Letter 23,” the powerhouse funk classic by The Brothers Johnson, from their “Right on Time” album, produced by Quincy Jones!

The song was originally written by recording artist Shuggie Otis for his “Freedom Fight” album.

Of course, one of the strange things about the song is that the number 23 is never mentioned–only number 22!

It has something to do with a series of love letters and the song is actually the 23rd letter written to respond to letter 22.

The song also features One of the Greatest Guitar Breaks Ever Recorded performed by Lee Ritenour!

Here’s a bonus bonus: “Strawberry Letter 23” by Shuggie Otis!!!
