Today, December 26th, Phil Maq will not only be the Disc Jockey from 2PM-4PM EST, at the Malt Shop, he will also be the main Soda Jerk! (Or just plain “jerk” if you prefer.)
That’s right! I’ll be filling in for Daddy G!
So, I thought it would be fun-since I haven’t done one in several years, to do a WKNR Countdown from 59 YEARS AGO!
And not just the Top 13 or Top 20. No sir! No ma’am!
I will be doing the whole list, time permitting, plus bonus tracks!
Now, this list is from a time when I wasn’t aware of music guides, much less the intricacies of radio and music.
That wouldn’t happen for a few more years.
So, this is a unique snapshot of AM Radio in Detroit!
There’s no Beatles, no British Invasion, no psychedelic, no hippies.
It’s mostly American music, and many of the songs even I wasn’t familiar with.
