Phil Maq and Jaqbeard Together Again!

This show already happened on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. I’m just trying to catch up.

More computer issues. Maybe it would just be better to be a pirate.

It’s time for the annual appearance of Jaqbeard the pirate. Probably against my better judgment, I’ve arranged for him to appear without any brute force being used. On his end. I’m not sure what time he’ll show up because he’s not very reliable. But I have picked some songs to play while he’s here.

They will not be your great-great-great-great-great grandfather’s pirate music!

Of course, there will be other songs, too. Songs by other artists on the show will include Michael Stephens, Deni Bonet, Boo Ray, Annie & Rod Capps, The Hangabouts, Ye Banished Privateers, Bill Grogan’s Goat, Gann Brewer, John Ginty and @Aster, Paddy And The Rats, The O’Reillys and the Paddyhats, Sarah Jane Scouten, Michael Jonathon, and many more!!!

Come on along for the ride and tune in to 89.3 FM (89.3 WHFR.FM) in the Dearborn-Detroit area, stream it anywhere in the world with this special link : https://whfr.fm/streamer/ (Press the “Listen Live Now” button), or use Tune In Player to stream it.

Phil’s Faves: Songs, September 16, 2018

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio shows, “Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays, 10A-12N ET, or “Prime Time Theme Attic,” heard Mondays, 8P-10P ET!

This list forms the basis of my countdown list on the “Top 9 at 9:09” segment of my “Prime Time Theme Attic Show” on alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Albums” lists!

Phil’s Faves: Albums, September 9, 2018

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 9:09” segment of my “Prime Time Theme Attic Show,” (Mondays, 8P-10P ET) on alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

They may also turn up on my “Theme Attic Show,” (Wednesdays, 10A-12N ET)

Here’s a link:

https://whfr.fm/streamer/

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

Theme Attic Celebrates 400 Shows!

I thought for my 400th show I would like to play songs that I wanted to play for awhile but hadn’t been able to fit into a theme.

Of course, I can’t help but work them into some mini themes and a major one.

So, Wednesday morning’s “Theme Attic” with Phil Maq from 10AM-12PM EDT, will have a theme on hurricanes (timely, isn’t it?), and more!!!

Songs by artists on the show will include Flamin’ Groovies, Paul Revere & The Raiders, Gifts or Creatures, new Jim McCarty, Angela Perley & The Howlin’ Moons, The Native Howl, Jeff Healey, May Erlewine, The Record Company, Maria Muldaur (Happy Birthday!), Nick Moss Band, Suzes, Pop 4 (Futureman Records), I Don’t Trust Robots, the Mountain Goats, Paul McCartney, Liz Phair, Desert Dragon, Stubby Kaye, Guantanamo Baywatch, Vandenberg’s Moonkings, and more!!!

The Seven Deadly Sins Song Cycle Begins on “Prime Time Theme Attic” with Gluttony, Monday Night, 8PM-10PM EDT!!!

Several months ago, I mentioned on my seventh anniversary show that I wanted to do some larger themes that lasted over several weeks. It has been a while since I did one of these and I like the continuity of the idea.

So as year seven winds into year eight and before my annual Philby Award shows I thought I would go large for the remainder of the year.

Therefore, I’m kicking off a song cycle about the Seven Deadly Sins on Monday night’s “Prime Time Theme Attic” with Phil Maq from 8PM-10PM EDT. It won’t be every week, but it will be an going theme for a while.

The sins are small sins that many people commit on a regular basis, but overdo them to such an excess that they then become cardinal, or deadly sins.

The seven deadly sins are lust, greed, pride, gluttony, wrath, sloth, and envy.

And nothing says “go large” like gluttony–which is over eating or over drinking.

Betcha didn’t know that!

There will also be a “Top 9 at 9:09” of this week’s “Phil’s Faves Albums!”

Songs by artists on the show will include Fats Waller, Thin Lizzy, Fats Domino, Sarah McQuaid, ELVIS PRESLEY, Jethro Tull, Gigi Scott and Trouble Town, Nora Jane Struthers and The Party Line, Stepladders, Dave Caruso Music, The Beatles, Tosha Owens Music, Oginalii, The Bayonets, Nick Piunti & The Complicated Men, Sting, Frankie Yankovic, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Billy Brandt & Sarana VerLin, The Traveling Wilburys, Chris Murphy Music, Gonzalo Bergara, and more!!!

Come on along for the ride and tune in to 89.3 FM (89.3 WHFR.FM) in the Dearborn-Detroit area, stream it anywhere in the world with this special snack link : https://whfr.fm/streamer/ (Press the “Listen Live Now” button), or use Tune In Player to stream it.
