This will be a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best videos currently available on TV. I don’t, as a rule, go searching for old music videos, so that’s why it will focus mostly on current or recent videos. Phil’s Faves: Albums, May 31, 2015

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category. It may also give some insight as to what I might be playing in the near future on my radio show, “Theme Attic.” Once again, it’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

Phil’s Faves: Songs, May 31, 2015

This will be a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.
Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

“Father’s Day Show” Fun: Trace Adkins, Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils, and Weird Al Yankovic!!!

It’s so hard to believe that an artist like Trace Adkins, who has put out a string of “redneck” songs, can make such a touching song like “Just Fishin.'” I guess that’s what makes a true artist because the combination of the video and words can make a hardened person tear up. A great Father’s Day song!:

Speaking of “rednecks,” rockin’ country band Jennifer Westwood and The Handsome Devils–who put on one energetic live show, have a new release, “Greetings From This Town.” Appropriately enough for this post, a song on the album is called “Redneck Man” (Kind of a treat for Dad;))

And a perfect video that many people can relate to about their own dads, is Weird Al Yankovic’s [Hall of Fame] “Tacky” from “Mandatory Fun.”:

My Favorite Wedding Videos: Little Big Town, Billy Idol, and Sultans of String!!!

Before they really hit it big, Little Big Town released this awesome video of “Little White Church” (Greatest Video), [Favorite Song of All Time], a few years ago. The shady goings on at the wedding event compliments the incredible swamp rock of the song! The lead guitar and bass are just great! I have watched this video hundreds of time and will still watch it whenever I come across it!:

Another of the Greatest Videos is Billy Idol’s “White Wedding!” Billy had just come off of his stint with Generation X and desperately needed a hit. The visuals in the video along with the screaming vocals of the song were even to give him and his new fans what they wanted. The visual of the hammer and nails accompanied by the drum accents hits my soul every time I see it!

Let’s finish on a positive note about weddings. I have used the Sultans of String video for “Will You Marry Me,” a song that violinist Chris McKhool wrote for his wife, before on Valentine’s Day. But it also belongs with all effervescent wedding songs!:

“Theme Attic” Hall of Fame Musical Legends: Shania Twain and Linda Ronstadt!!!

Shania Twain is getting ready to start what she is calling her farewell tour. A few years back, after a long hiatus, Shania released a pleasant single, “Today Is Your Day”:

One of those artists who had many stylistic changes through a career, Linda Ronstadt went full in into the pop standard catalog, even going so far–wisely, to use legendary arranger David Rose for the orchestrations. Here she is doing a sweet version of “I’ve Got a Crush on You”:
