Phil’s Faves: Videos, April 13, 2014

This will be a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best videos currently available on TV. I don’t, as a rule, go searching for old music videos, so that’s why it will focus mostly on current or recent videos. For this category, I am also going to include any live performances on talk or variety shows that I see during the week.

“Bedroom Eyes” and a Couple of “Catches”:Dum Dum Girls, Sally Seltmann, and The Dave Clark Five!!!

When I saw The Dum Dum Girls this past Sunday, I didn’t expect to hear “Bedroom Eyes” until it was time for an encore. I was ecstatically surprised to find them opening the show with it. I’m going to throw this song into the Greatest Songs Ever Recorded [GSER] category. The twangy guitar, the classic girl group harmonies, the throwback rock beat, and the total wall of sound. It doesn’t get much better than that!:

I cant’s seem to get Sally Seltmann’s “catchy” melody out of my head! Little did I know that the pretty Australian singer put out an animated video for it!:

It’s usually not too embarassing to copy someone if you do it well. The Dave Clark Five had plenty of original ideas of their own and were one of the best British Invasion bands. But here they gleefully “borrow” from The Beatles “A Hard Days Night” movie!:

Silly Fun:Soupy Sales and Jason Didner and The Jungle Gym Jam!!

Funnyman Soupy Sales is known for his TV shows, but he also recorded plenty of music over the years. Here is song about his favorite mean dog, White Fang:

Jason Didner & The Jungle Gym Jam have animated one of their songs, “Five Sea Lions.” It had its world premiere last week, but here it is in full splendiferous color!:

Such Alliteration!:Bend Sinister, Bruce Springsteen, and The Supremes!!

One of my favorite albums right now is Animals by Bend Sinister! These dudes may look like they’re from the 70’s but they are KEEPING ROCK ALIVE in the 20 teens! Check out their video for Teacher:

Bruce Springsteen never really has been into making planned videos, but here he is trying to adapt to changing times doing Brilliant Disguise. The “gypsy” should have told him to move around a bit more. The song, however, is “brilliant!”:

The Supremes were one of the few American groups that kept pace with The British Invasion. Here they are performing choreography for Stop! In the Name of Love [GSER] that has been imitated millions of times since!:
