Phil’s Faves: Videos, December 11, 2011

This will be a personal weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best videos currently available on TV. I don’t, as a rule, go searching for old music videos, so that’s why it will focus mostly on current or recent videos. For this category, I am also going to include any live performances on talk or variety shows that I see during the week.

It’s getting on to the end of the year, and that means that there aren’t really many new videos coming out right now. In other words, it’s getting to the point where the focus shifts to year end lists. Therefore, depending what gets broadcast, I may suspend this list and the “Q” Bombs until things start up again………..

Coldplay and Taylor Swift retain the top two spots for another week. Miranda Lambert jumps right up behind them! There wasn’t much that was interesting this week in the live category, so several worthy videos enter this week’s list……….

Top 10 Videos for the week of December 11, 2011

1. Paradise–Coldplay
2. Sparks Fly—Taylor Swift
3. Baggage Claim—Miranda Lambert live on “CMA Awards”
4. Red Solo Cup–Toby Keith (Christmas Edition)
5. The One That Got Away–Katy Perry
6. A Thousand Years–Christina Perri from “Breaking Dawn, Part One”
7. Home—Dierks Bentley on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”
8. Ours—Taylor Swift
9. You—Chris Young
10. Lonely Boy—The Black Keys

1) “Paradise”—I like the Chris Martin “elephant” busking to earn money to buy a bike but ends up only earning enough money to buy a unicycle!
2) “Sparks Fly”—What an amazing year for Taylor!
3) “Baggage Claim”—I don’t know if there is another studio version of this video, but I would ride this one out! The music is tighter!
4) “Red Solo Cup” (Christmas Edition)—I moved this one up again because I love the fact that someone took a stupid video and decided to “Christmas it up” with a few seasonal scenes! To me, that is pure stupid genius—and that’s a compliment!
5) “The One That Got Away”—This one’s starting to wear on me. I’m sure it’s the subject matter. However, if you have a warped sense of humor, the impeccable timing of the boulder in the middle of the road is worth a yuck……….
6) “A Thousand Years”—Since this one never really caught on, I’m seeing it less often, so it begins a downward spiral….
7) “Home”—The studio version of this video is almost as good as the live version I had on the list last week! The sentiment in this video just feels right as the Iraq War winds down!
8) “Ours”—A new video from Taylor that, of course, happens to be really sweet! What a shock!!
9) “You”—I think it would be really disappointing to not enter this at least one time for the creative use of black and white and color in this video! The song’s OK, too……….
10) “Lonely Boy”—I can’t be any happier! The video for this very cool song is sooooo stupid! The guy does a great job dancing, but I can’t help but smile or laugh when I see it.
Not as good as the “Tighten Up” video, but it’s close!
