Phil’s Faves: Videos, July 8, 2012

This will be a personal weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best videos currently available on TV. I don’t, as a rule, go searching for old music videos, so that’s why it will focus mostly on current or recent videos. For this category, I am also going to include any live performances on talk or variety shows that I see during the week.

“Pontoon” decided to drop anchor for awhile at the top of the video list for another week!
(Hmm…I wonder how many nautical phrases I might have to come up with for Little Big Town’s video run…)

Top 10 Videos and Performances for the week of July 8, 2012

1. Pontoon—Little Big Town
2. Angel Eyes—Love and Theft
3. (Kissed You) Good Night—Gloriana
4. Wide Awake—Katy Perry
5. Give Your Heart a Break—Demi Lovato
6. The Wind—Zac Brown Band
7. Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck—Kip Moore
8. 50 Ways to Say Goodbye—Train
9. That’s Why I Pray—Big & Rich
10. Call Me Maybe—Carly Rae Jepsen

1) “Pontoon”—I like the silliness of this Little Big Town Video—even hitting golf balls off the pontoon!
2) “Angel Eyes”—Alright. I know this Love and Theft video isn’t as complicated as I’m making it out to be. But that’s probably why I keep watching it. I can’t quite figure it out! 3) “(Kissed You) Good Night”—I like the intensity of both Gloriana’s video and song! I really like the way the camera speeds up when the guy moves to kiss the girl!
4) “Wide Awake”—Young Katy Perry is so cute as she explores the fantasy world with grown up Katy Perry!
5) “Give Your Heart a Break”—OK. I have determined that I like Demi Lovato’s song better than her video—although it’s still a nice effort……..
6) “The Wind”—The Zac Brown Band have totally caught me off guard with an animated Mike Judge video! It’s like an SF version of “King of the Hill!”
7) “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck”—Well, Kip Moore, maybe there is something about a truck…but not that much. This one is dropping again…probably for good………..
8) “50 Ways to Say Goodbye”—Yes! Train have redeemed themselves with a black comedy video that covers territory similar to Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover!”
9) “That’s Why I Pray”—Normally I am not a big Big & Rich fan, but “That’s Why I Pray” appears to be a sincere topical effort and I applaud them for it!
10) “Call Me Maybe”Carly Rae Jepsen hangs around for one more week. “Call Me Maybe” is probably the unofficial song of summer at this point…but not mine…………..
