Phil’s Faves: Videos, September 2, 2012

This will be a personal weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best videos currently available on TV. I don’t, as a rule, go searching for old music videos, so that’s why it will focus mostly on current or recent videos. For this category, I am also going to include any live performances on talk or variety shows that I see during the week.

The Pistol Annies have their first #1 on my faves:video list! This is a complete surprise to me since I so detested their “Hell on Heels” video, which did not hang around very long. I think this one is worthy of the ranking!

Top 10 Videos and Performances for the week of September 2, 2012

1. Takin’ Pills—The Pistol Annies
2. 50 Ways to Say Goodbye—Train
3. One More Night—Maroon 5 with Adam Levine
4. Come Over—Kenny Chesney
5. She’s So Mean—Matchbox 20
6. Pontoon—Little Big Town
7. Lovin’ You Is Fun—Easton Corbin
8. The Wind—Zac Brown Band
9. Wide Awake—Katy Perry
10. Blow Me (One Last Kiss)—Pink

1) “Takin’ Pills”—I highly doubt that the way of life depicted in the video is the way that The Pistol Annies tour nowadays, but that doesn’t mean that they weren’t true stories at one time. I like the docu feel of the video and the song is good!
2) “50 Ways to Say Goodbye”—I’m not sure that Train is disappearing for good. I still like the video a lot. The song, however, is only average………….
3) “One More Night”Adam Levine and Maroon 5 go another round at number 3! As much as I like the video, the song is starting to grate on my nerves. That is not a good sign for the boys……..
4) “Come Over”—If Kenny Chesney were smart he would accept that invitation!
5) “She’s So Mean”Matchbox 20’s song sounds good on the radio, but I’m starting to get tired of watching the girlfriend wreak havoc in the video……..
6) “Pontoon”Little Big Town look like they’re making a big move on CMT! “Pontoon” may hang on for a while longer!
7) “Lovin’ You Is Fun”—Finally, CMT catches up to Phil Maq! Corbin Easton’s video was on my faves list several months ago and I’m happy to see it return!
8) “The Wind”—Just an observation on the Zac Brown Band/Mike Judge collaboration: Doesn’t it look like there’s a shirtless grown up Bobby from the animated series “King of the Hill” in the lower right hand corner of the audience watching the band play?
9) “Wide Awake”Katy Perry is still hanging on for another week…………..
10) “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)”Pink rarely puts out a bad video, so it’s no surprise that I like her newest one. It’s mostly a black-and-white homage to foreign films. Pink goes all in, unlike The Band Perry and their “Postcard from Paris” video which doesn’t commit to it like she does!
