Phil’s Faves: Albums, August 25, 2024

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

There’s plenty of other musical things to browse!

A list that you might find interesting is my list for “The Most Awesomest Songs of the Day”: https://philmaq.com/most-awesomest-songs/!

If you’d like to know what I think are even better than the awesome songs, have a look at “The Greatest Songs Ever Recorded”:https://philmaq.com/the-greatest-songs-ever-recorded/! Occasionally, an “awesome song” crosses over to become a “Greatest Song!”

My somewhat unusual Hall of Fame can be explored here: https://philmaq.com/hall-of-fame/!

Phil’s Faves: Songs, August 25, 2024

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It took a pair of “Party Drawers” plus some snarky, ‘naughty’ vocals from Molly Pasutti to return The Mighty King of Love—Phil Lee, to the top for his second #1 weekly Faves song!!

Ya Can’t Forget the Sun (Or the Moon), and the 2024 Summer New Music Showcase #2.25 on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic,” 12PM-4PM EDT!!!

All we have to do is wear sunscreen!
Every year, I pay my annual tribute to the sun!
This year will be slightly different with a 2024 Summer New Music Showcase #2.25 on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” with Phil Maq, from 12PM-4PM EDT!!!
Plenty of new songs about Ol’ Sol as well as plenty of classics!
Plus a couple of moon tunes!
Throw in a Top 9 at 2:09 EDT of this week’s Fave albums, and it should be a mostly sun, fun show!
The show will feature 12 songs by artists with Southeast Michigan ties!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate.
I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
However…they are NOT in sequential order. (I often make changes during the show!)
Songs by artists from 12PM-2:09 PM EDT should include Joan As Police Woman, Yannis & The Yaw, Her Head’s On Fire (Their album cover for “Strange Desires” is left of center in the banner!), AbsolutUnsa, The Riptide Rats, Robert Massard (The cover for “I Am the Sun is in the left hand corner of the banner!), Stuck In The Sound, Eddie Lightner, Ambassador Hazy, Michael Simmons, Sheppard (Their new “Zora” album is second from the right in the banner!), Eddie Horowitz, Solomon King and the Chosen, The Dreaded Laramie (Their new album cover for “Princess Feedback,” is in the lower right corner of the banner!), Otter Petter, and more!!!
Songs by artists from 2 PM-4PM EDT should include Barker & Broski (Michael Snyder-Barker, Chris Broski), Sarah Morris (Sarah Morris) Luti and Bobby (Luti Erbeznik, Bobby Pennock), The Lucky Nows (Their new album cover, “Broken Homes and Hearts of Gold,” is right of center in the banner!), (Jen Cass, Eric Janetsky), sparkle*jets u.k., Ruth Bloomquist (Max Bloomquist), Shari Puorto Band (Shari Puorto), Shelton & Williams, The Magnolia Janes (Their new album cover, “The Light Years,” is second from the left in the banner!) (Sarah Bonsignore Hemstalk, Ashley Riley), Scott Ainslie/Cattail Music, Ltd. (Scott Ainslie), Super 8 (Paul Ryan), Custard Flux (Curvey Gregory), Ceolsige, Roger Ponder, Wendy Webb (Wendy Webb), and more!!!
So, grab an umbrella for shade, get a friend to listen with, and come along for Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EDT with Phil Maq!!!
