Phil’s Faves: Albums, August 4, 2024

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

There’s plenty of other musical things to browse!

Phil’s Faves: Songs, August 4, 2024

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

This list forms the basis of my countdown list on the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my show on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Albums” lists!

2024 Summer New Showcase #1.5; Farewell Olympics and More New World Music Fun on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic,” 12PM-4PM EDT!!!

So, the pressure is on for me to fit everything I want to fit in my shows for the next seven weeks!

Of course, that’s nothing like the pressure that the Olympic athletes are under as we bid adieu to Paris and the Summer Olympics on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” with Phil Maq from 12PM-4PM EDT!
That means we also will be transitioning away from them, and the first half of the show (Plus some of the second) will feature the 2024 Summer New Music Showcase #1.5! (Some more new World Music, but less than last week’s show.)
Hey! I have to fit it in where I can! (Expect that for the rest of the season!)
Some Rescued Record Roulette, singles, and a Top 9 at 2:09 PM EDT of this week’s Fave Songs completes the show!
Stats are good: 15 artist debuts, 20 new releases, 3 unreleased, 1 world premiere, 14 artists with Southeast Michigan ties, and 14 singles!
Once again, there should be plenty of Gold to find in there!!!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate.
I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
However…they are NOT in sequential order. (I often make changes during the show!)
Songs by artists from 12PM-2:09 PM EDT should include Liam Benzvi, piglet and tiberius b, dog eyes, The Spiritual Machines, Waikiki Makaki, Zouz, Jose Lobo, Enda Reilly (Enda‘s new album cover, “Hy-Brasil,” is in the center of the banner!), The Hillbilly Moon Explosion, Fuudge, Boris Bond, Dina Ögon band, HALO MAUD, Tim Hort (His new album, “The Radio Hour” is second from the right in the banner!), Beowulf Kingsley (His “Atomic Weasel Ball” album cover is just left of center in the banner!) (Todd Perkins), and more!!!
Songs by artists from 2PM-4PM EDT should include Roger Ponder, The Steve Taylor Three (Steve Taylor, Bryan Frink, Carey Weaver) Foundry Town Survivors (They are playing Ann Arbor Happy Hour @ LIVE in Ann Arbor, Michigan this Friday!)(BG Gebhardt), Dan Bern with Jane’s Great Dane (Dan Bern‘s new album cover, “Starting Over,” is in the lower right corner of the banner!), brand new Pat Smillie, Dog Latin (Chris McGorey), The Wag, The Wildwoods (They are playing The Ark – Ann Arbor, Michigan, Wednesday night, tonight!)(Chloe Pinkman Gose, Noah Gose), Phil Lee – The Mighty King Of Love (Phil Lee), The Blueflowers (Kate Hinote), Shawn Adam Williams Official (Shawn Adam Williams), Ariane Lydon, Dog Sisters, Eric Gnezda – Songwriter and Speaker (Eric Gnezda), LA FEMME, and more!!!
So, grab your flag, get a friend to listen with, and come along for Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EDT with Phil Maq!!!

2024 Summer New Music Showcase #1 and Some World Music Fun with Summer Olympics Week Two, on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic,” 12PM-4PM EDT!!!

Still not up to even Olympic Record Speed yet, but feeling good enough to give it that Olympic try, “Theme Attic” and a returning Phil Maq combines a 2024 Summer New Music Showcase, World Music, and some Summer Olympics Week Two, into a flavorful offering on Wednesday from 12PM-4PM EDT!!!
I have a lot of new World Music selections, many of them on France and Paris, along with a few for Rescued Record Roullette that I should be able to weave together for an international feel!
Stats are pretty good: 20 artist debuts, 25 new releases, 1 unreleased, 12 artsists with Southeast Michigan ties, and 2 World premieres!!!
Throw in a Top 9 at 2:09 of this week’s Fave Albums, and it should be a show with tremendous variety!!!

I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them! (It may be more difficult this week.)

But I can promise this: I will not force my selections. If something doesn’t hit me, I won’t post one.

Everything I do has always been about shining a spotlight on the artist and their music.

Now I will have the potential to shine 365 more spotlights if I want to!

It’s the middle of Summer!

The weather feels hot and sticky!

It seems like the right time to cool off with a nice, refreshing slice of “Watermelon Moon” by Eddie Lightner from his “Notes of Life” release!

When it’s hot and uncomfortable, there;s no reason to complicate things, so Eddie‘s down home bluegrass hits the spot and makes the listener want to eat as much as they can until they become satiated, which is how I often eat watermelon!

I love the imagery!

The Most Awesomest Song of the Day is “Watermelon Moon”  by Eddie Lightner!!!
