Fall New Music Showcase #3 on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic,” 12PM-4PM EST!!!

We have arrived at the last New Music Showcase of the year on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” with Phil Maq from 12PM-4PM EST!!!

That would be the Fall New Music Showcase #3 to be precise!
But the new music never stops on “Theme Attic,” and I will still be able to fit in plenty before the year ends, too!
And then things renew at the start of the year, just a few short weeks away!
Numbers are pretty good: 22 new artists, 24 new releases, 2 world premiere, 9 artists with Southeast Michigan ties, and 13 singles!
The numbers might have been higher, however there will be several seasonal songs that I feel will add to the festivities that I haven’t gotten to, plus some killer new ones!
Add a Top 9 at 2:09 EST for this week’s albums and we have what the third and final New Music Showcase of the year should be!
And, of course, another stack of Random Rescue Records-albums that aren’t new, just things that were overlooked!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate.
I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
However…they are NOT in sequential order. (I often make changes during the show!)
Songs from 2:09-4PM EST should include Scott Greeson Music (His album cover for “Riverside” is second from the right in the banner!), (Jeremy Porter, Liz Miller (Her album cover for “Lucky Me” is second from the left in the banner), Nicollette Sullivan, Fangs and Twang (Their album cover for “You Monster” is just left of center in the banner!), Ben Cook-Feltz, a World Premiere song from Joe Peters & Friends and Frederick Michaels with Gibson Wells Music , (Their album cover for “Some Things Old, Some Things New” is in the banner on the left!), Steve Postell, Stuart Benbow (His “Christmas Unplugged” album cover is on the right in the banner!), The Sugar Clouds, Mikaela Davis (Her album cover for “Mikaela Davis and Southern Star” is just right of center in the banner!), a possible World Premier from Barker & Broski, Deni Bonet and Chris Flynn, Ann Beretta, Carrie Westbay Dog Latin, Laurie Middlebrook (Bob Hausler), Scott Martin and more!!!
So, grab something to take some notes, get a friend to listen with, and come along for Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EST with Phil Maq!!!

Phil’s Faves: Albums, December 3, 2023

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

There’s plenty of other musical things to browse!

Phil’s Faves: Songs, December 3, 2023

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

One of the Greatest Songs Ever Recorded: “No Words” by Paul McCartney and Wings (A Denny Laine Song!!!)

Top 10 Denny Laine Songs

For as long as I’ve been on the radio, and definitely for as long as I’ve been writing a blog, I will occasionally make a reference to a song being “One of the Greatest Songs Ever Recorded!” (GSER)

I would usually follow that by saying that I would eventually start a category for it, but then never get around to it.

Well, now I’m getting around to it!

My radio show, “Theme Attic,”  is on Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET.

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

The Greatest Songs will pretty much follow the pattern of The Most Awesomest Song of the Day.

I’ll select a song to celebrate and then give my thoughts about it. Nothing really brand new here that hasn’t been done before. But since I have a website, I can collect them and lay out what my own greatest songs are.

Here’s a link to have a look at “The Greatest Songs Ever Recorded”: https://philmaq.com/the-greatest-songs-ever-recorded/! Occasionally, an “awesome song” crosses over to become a “Greatest Song!”

Even though I always emphasize new music and artists, it’s always fun to take a short drive through the legendary artists, since they influenced those other artists!

But a song doesn’t have to be old or done by a legendary Theme Attic Hall of Fame member to be thus honored.

I can think of several songs that are only a few years old or less that I could identify as One of the Greatest Songs Ever Recorded.

This will be fun, and hopefully you will join me on my journey!

It was one year ago today, that I met a musical hero of mine. He played on, and wrote some of the greatest music of all time–guitarist Denny Laine [Hall of Fame]!

The adventure started a couple of weeks earlier, April 24,  when I was lucky enough to interview him on my morning “Theme Attic” show.

Denny was coming into town for a show at The Magic Bag to play the complete “Band on the Run” album, as well as some early songs by The Moody Blues.

It was a fun 45 minute interview! He had just been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and was open to talking about anything including former band mates Ginger Baker and Paul McCartney [Hall of Fame].

Fast forward a couple of weeks later, Denny remembered me from the interview and asked me to introduce the band for his show!

Now, I’m smart enough to know that no one remembers the person who introduces the artist at a show.

But I do!

No photo description available.

It was a great show and the band played everything including the strangely weird to hear live, “Picasso’s Last Words,” maracas and all!

Here’s one of my favorites from “Band on the Run,”–a very underrated song that Denny  said he pretty much wrote 90% of!

The Most Awesomest Song of the Day is “No Words” by Wings with Denny Laine!!! [Hall of Fame]

Let’s Get “Wild and Crazy” on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic,” 12PM-4PM EST!!!

Two of the best characters ever created on Saturday Night Live was Steve Martin and Dan Aykroyd‘s “Two Wild and Crazy Guys!”…who really weren’t all that wild or crazy although they thought they were.
But they were hilarious!
For some reason, I have been stuck on some songs that cover those themes so I decided to pair them up and go for it on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” with Phil Maq, from 12PM-4PM EST!!!
And just like the “Festrunk Brothers,” some of them don’t live up to that billing, but they are still good songs!
That will be pretty much the show until the Top 9 at 2:09 of these week’s Fave albums Countdown (Although there will be several that will carry on that theme!), and then wrap up with artists playing around town and other things of interest as well as a new Theme Attic Hall of Fame Inductee: The Yardbirds!
All in all, a pretty “wild and crazy” show!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate.
I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
However…they are NOT in sequential order. (I often make changes during the show!)
Songs by artists between 12PM-209 PM EST should include Alphanaut, Mississippi Heat, The Claudettes, Jen Sygit, Joseph Veloz with Thornetta Davis (Joseph Veloz‘s “Joseph Veloz and The Velozians” album cover is second from the left in the banner!), Futurist, Jimmy Carpenter, Michele D’Amour McDanel (Her album cover for “Hot Mess” is just to the right of the middle in the banner!), KillerStar, Liz Miller (Liz Miller), Heather Pierson, Bill Price, Jerry Price, and more!!!
Songs by artists from 2:09-4PM EST should include The Foxgloves, Martin Kohn, Kathy Wieland (Kathy’s new “Skyliner” album cover is third from the left in the banner!), Signal Flags (John Giaccone), Ann Beretta, Mike Ward: PsychoSongs (Mike Ward is playing Trinity House Theatre in Livonia, Michigan this Sunday!), The International Treasures (Doyle Turner, Ted Hajnasiewicz), Roger Ponder, The Armoires (The cover for their brand new release is on the left in the banner!)(Big Stir Records), Gary Browe Music (Gary Browe), Wolf B. Reuter, Bob Malone (Bob Malone), Judy Banker, Milan Seth (Milan Seth Quartet & Judy Banker Trio wsg Sydney Timbrook at Unity Vibration this Saturday in Ypsilanti, Michigan!), Steve Postell, The Steve Taylor Three (THE STEVE TAYLOR THREE @ BRADY’S TAVERN! in Beverly Hills, Michigan this Saturday!), CanningMusic, The Yardbirds, and more!!!
So, grab something to calm your nerves, get a friend to listen with, and come along for Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EST with Phil Maq!!!
