The Most Awesomest Song of the Day: “When the Moon Gets Tangled” by Karan Casey!!!

I have a feature to recognize a slice of good music: The Most Awesomest Song of the Day!

Here’s a link to the complete list: https://philmaq.com/most-awesomest-songs/

I want to emphasize mostly, relatively newer music, just like on my weekly “Theme Attic” show, Wednesdays, from 12PM-4PM ET!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

If you’d like to know what I think are even better than the awesome songs, have a look at “The Greatest Songs Ever Recorded”:https://philmaq.com/the-greatest-songs-ever-recorded/! Occasionally, an “awesome song” crosses over to become a “Greatest Song!”

But I can promise this: I will not force my selections. If something doesn’t hit me, I won’t post one.

Everything I do has always been about shining a spotlight on the artist and their music.

Now I will have the potential to shine 365 more spotlights if I want to!

Another month and another full moon has arrived on our windowsills!

From her brand new twelfth album release, “Nine Apples of Gold,” Irish Singer/Songwriter has included a new take on our mutual friend, the moon.

Over a very haunting melody with beautiful harmonies, the listener is transported to various places using moonbeams.

Anthropomorphic lyrics containing imagery about the moon becoming entangled in a tree provide additional highlights: “her dress is trampled/ and she cannot break free” sets the scene for the rest of the song.

It’s a very nice derivation from many of the other moon songs I have featured!

The Most Awesomest Song of the Day is “When the Moon Gets Tangled” by Karan Casey!!!

Phil’s Faves: Albums, February 26, 2023

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

Phil’s Faves: Songs, February 26, 2023

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

The Second 2023 Winter New Music Showcase on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic,” 12PM-4PM EST!!!

I think many of us in the Detroit area all learned how much we love electricity in the past week–among other lessons.
I think that makes it a good time to reconvene around our radios and streams for The Second Winter 2023 New Music Showcase on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” with Phil Maq from 12PM-4PM EST!!!
For just such a special gathering, I may have put together my most eclectic batch of new music…EVER!
And me saying that about my show is saying a lot!
The stats certainly tell the tale: 42 artist debuts, 25 new releases, 8 artists with Southeast Michigan ties, 8 singles!
That is a new record for artist debuts!
And the Top 9 at 2:09 will feature songs I’ve never played before from the albums on this week’s Faves Countdown!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate.
I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
And…they are NOT in chronological order.
Songs by artists between 12PM-2:09 PM EST should include Lorraine Leckie & Her Demons , Carn Kahin, Blue Moon Marquee (Their album cover for “Scream, Holler and Howl” is on the far left of the banner!), SunYears with Jess Williamson, Theodore with Kostas Zabos, Temps featuring Joana Gomila NNAMDÏ Shamir and Quelle Chris, Mike Watt and The SecondMissingmen, Capo Corleone, Thin Rail, Mark Tewarson Music, Stephen McCarthy and Carla Olson (Their new album cover for “Night Comes Falling” is second from the right in the banner!), Andy Shauf, La Fille, Victor Wainright, Doug Tuttle, Nicholas Johnson, Ron Davis, Paulgantleymusic with Mary Gantley Music (His album cover for “The Wheels Are No Big Deal” is on the far right in the banner!), Hifi Sean and David McAlmont, Beng, Cal in Red, and more!!!
Songs by artists between 2:09 PM-4PM EST should include Doyle Turner Music, (His album cover for “Sweet, Difficult Sounds” is third from the right in the banner!), Analea Brown, Bobby Pennock, Wishbone Ash, The Arcs, San Tropez, The Steve Taylor Three, Sarah Morris, Linden Thoburn, The Thing With Feathers, Jeremy Facknitz, Corndaddy, Starts with a Con (Their self titled album cover is second from the left in the banner!), Beowulf Kingsley  Richard Barone, Crazy ChesturBeowulf Kingsley, Richard Barone, Crazy Chestur (Their album cover for “5X5” is third from the left in the banner!), MIDNITE HELLION, ‘In Flames’, Tony Venuto, Steve Vai, Brian Tarquin & Heavy Friends with Bumblefoot, and more!!!
So grab your open ears and mind, get a friend or two to listen with, and come along for Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EST with Phil Maq!!!

Theme Attic Kicks Off the Mardi Gras Party on Wednesday, 12PM-4Pm EST!!!

Music has the power to heal, so I hope that Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” with Phil Maq from 12PM-4PM EST will do just that!!!
I will bring a mostly Mardi Gras Party and make room for a Top 9 at 2:09 EST as well as a salute to Sam Cooke, who will be joining the Theme Attic Hall of Fame!
I have gone through many musical phases in my life, and Sam Cooke is one of them that started in the early 90s and continues to this day!
Considering that I intend to play several Mardi Gras classics, this week’s stats are still strong: 5 artist debuts, 4 new releases, 10 artists with Southeast Michigan ties, 1 single!!!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate.
I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
And…they are NOT in chronological order.
Songs by artists between 12PM-2:09 PM EST should include Rod Johnson Music (Rod Johnson), Sam Cooke, Diane Hubka & The Sun Canyon Band (Diane Hubka) (Her recently released album, “You Never Can Tell” is in the upper left corner of the banner!), The Natural Lines, Mike Latini Music (Mike Latini), Beowulf Kingsley (Todd Perkins)(His album cover for “The View From the Swamp”is on the far right in the banner!), Chris Thompson & Coral Creek, Louisiana’s LeRoux, Monsieur Guillaume and His Zydeco Hepcats (Their album cover for “Live at the Shop” is second from the left in the banner!), Mary Chapin Carpenter, Rich Lerner and The Groove Featuring Elena M (Their brand new album cover for “Get That Groove” is in the upper right corner of the banner!), Professor Longhair, Queen Ida and Al Rapone (Their album cover for “Back on the Bayou” is third from the right in the banner!), and many more!!!
So grab your squeezebox or your squeeze, get a friend or two to listen with, and come along for Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EST with Phil Maq!!!
