Phil’s Faves: Albums, December 11, 2022

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

Phil’s Faves: Songs, December 11, 2022

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

2022 Fall New Music Showcase #3 on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic,” 12PM-4PM EST!!!

When the “Third “Theme Attic” 2022 Fall New Music Showcase” with Phil Maq on Wednesday from 12PM-4PM EST rolls around, we all know that the end of the year is near!
And this year’s will be extra special to me because it will include a brand new World Premiere of a new Joedai Trobairitz and Troubadours release called “Beyond Collaboration!”
Whaaaaaatttttt is that you might ask???
Well, that is the fancy new way that Joe Peters & Friends, last year’s Philby Album of the Year Award winners, is referring to this new collection of artists that we’ll all have to get use to saying!
That’s because the first listens to “Beyond Collaboration” is pretty “tres magnifique!”
A week ago after last week’s “Theme Attic,” one of the song(s) didn’t even exist!
The unreleased song(s) contain the talents of Joe Peters, Charlie Walmsley, David Roof, Terry Collins, and Phil Maq!!!
Terry will also get a World Premiere of his latest version of his favorite song!!!
All of that will happen between 2PM-2:09 PM EST!!!
In addition, there will be a Top 9 at 2:09 Fave Albums Countdown!
And the stats are insanely crazy: 34 artist debuts, 23 new releases, 3 World Premieres, and 8 artists with Southeast Michigan ties!!!
That is a great way to wrap up the last New Music Showcase (The 12th!!!) of the year!!!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate.
I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
And…they are NOT in chronological order.
Songs by artists between 12PM-2PM EST should include Franki Pineapple Music (Franki Pineapple), Angela Easley(Her album cover for “Rise” is on the right in the banner!), Cam Kahin, Sumaroo, Joanie Leeds and Fyütch (Their new album cover for “Oy Vey: Another Christmas Album” is second from the right in the banner!), Softcult, Seven Kingdoms, Bass Drum of Death, Ben Cook-Feltz (His album cover for “Merry BCFing Christmas” is third from the right in the banner!), Sebastian Reynolds, Fever&tension, Nick Frater (His album cover for “Aerodrome Motel” is just left of center in the banner!), Dawn Tyler Watson, Andy Marino, Phil Yates (His album cover for “A Thin Thread” is on the left in the banner!), Larry Robbins, Chris Lund, Ilene Springer (Her album cover for “Relentless” is second from the left in the banner!), Valley Queen, John Pagano, Anthony Geraci, Stefan Nilsson, and more!!!
Songs by artists from 2:09PM-4PM should include Laura Rain and The Caesars, Lyn Stanley, Jennifer Naegele, Mike Ward, Tom Curless (Tom has a show this Saturday at The Lexington Bar in Detroit!), Brittany Jean Music, Mary Ann Kirt, Bob Malone, The Crista Carroll Band, Circa Waves, Deuce Denninger and Jason Heeter, Steve Rosenbaum, Tornado Sky, Aliens Don’t Ring Doorbells, Clint Bahr, Nick Carter, The Pinkerton Raid and more!!!
So grab a writing utensil and some paper to take notes, get a friend or two to listen with, and come along for the ride on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EST with Phil Maq!!!
OUR NEW ANTENNA AND TRANSMITTER MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO HEAR THE SHOW ALL OVER THE METRO DEARBORN-DETROIT AREA BY TUNING INTO 89.3 WHFR.FM!

The Know (No) Knew (New) Show on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic,” 12PM-4PM EST!!!

I’ve always thought about doing a “fun with homonyms” show (You know. Words that are spelled differently yet sound the same?), but have always rejected the idea.
Trying to think of ideas for this week, I wanted to focus on things I “know.” That quickly switched to “no,” and then to “knew” and “new.”
When I said them to myself, it made me laugh!
Well, that made me think I had a show idea. So, this week’s “Theme Attic” with host Phil Maq will be “The Know (No) Knew (New) Show” on Wednesday from 12PM-4PM EST!!! (Say it quickly. It might make you chuckle!)
We’ll have some more fun with a Top 9 at 2:09 of this week’s Fave Albums!
And, we’ll try a ticket giveaway between 2-3PM for a show featuring Laura Rain and The Caesars playing Aretha’s Jazz Café in Detroit, on Thursday, December 1! The phone number is 313-845-9676 then press 1, but please only call when I ask you to!
Throw in 5 artist debuts, 6 new releases, and 18 artists with Southeast Michigan ties and I know (See what I did there?) that’s a heckuva show!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate.
I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
And…they are NOT in chronological order.
Songs by artists between 2:09 PM-4PM EST should include The Accidentals, Crossword Smiles (Chipper Saam, Tom Curless), Mary Ann Kirt, brand new Popular Creeps who are playing The Lexington Bar in Detroit this Saturday! (Lenny Grassa)(Their album cover for “All This Will Lead to Tears” is second from the right in the banner!), Dog Sisters, Scott Baker, Jeremy Porter (Jeremy Porter)(Jeremy is playing Armageddon Beachparty Store and Lounge this Thursday!), Kate Hinote, Jordi Baizan (Jordi Baizan)(His album cover for “The Love in You” is second from the left in the banner!), Scott Ramminger Music (Scott Ramminger) (His album cover for “Live 3rd and Lindsley Nashville” is third from the left in the banner!), and more!!!
So grab a knowing look, get a friend or two to listen with, and come along for the ride on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EST with Phil Maq!!!
