Phil’s Faves: Albums, November 6, 2022

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

Phil’s Faves: Songs, November 6, 2022

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET!

Theme Attic Gets All Angsty About Worry, Wednesday, 12PM-4PM EDT!!!

What keeps you awake at night?
I’d say it’s worry about various things.
I like to think of worry as a waste of time.
“Extra angst” and wasted energy so to speak.
I prefer to resort to it only when something is inevitable.
Well, there is an infinite number of things that can make one sweat.
On this week’s “Theme Attic” with host Phil Maq, from 12PM-4PM EST, I’ll take a look at “worry” as a musical subject!
There will be a batch of songs for Veterans Day, and a Top 9 at 3:09 to Countdown this week’s Phil’s Fave Albums!!!
In addition to all of that, Singer/Songwriter Joe Peters will be an in studio guest between 2pm-3pm EST!!!
Joe is the main force behind The Joedai Warriors (Joe Peters & Friends) and most recently received the honor of Philby Best Album of 2021 with his “Collaboration” album!!!
The stats for this week are: 11 artist debuts, 5 new releases, possibly 2 unreleased songs, 12 artists with Southeast Michigan ties!!!
Pretty impressive stats!!!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate.
I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
And…they are NOT in chronological order.
Songs by artists from 12PM-2:09 PM EDT should include brand new Portland, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Tanya Donelly, brand new Bill Edwards (Edwardsongs) (The cover for Bill’s brand new album cover for “Thirteen Stories” is second from the left in the banner!), Rod Johnson (Rod Johnson), (Both Rod Johnson and Bill Edwards will be appearing on Friday at the Canterbury House in Ann Arbor!), Jeremy Porter (Jeremy Porter), Savoy Brown – Band, (Their album cover for “City Night” is in the middle of the banner!), Jan King and Medicine Ball (Jan King)(Their album cover for “Super Karmic” is in the upper left corner of the banner!), Chris Wilhelm Music (Chris Wilhelm), Tommy Z, The Stone Souls, Isleskye, Katie Dahl (Katie Dahl), Anne Marie Menta, Terry Robb, Lyn Koonce Music (Lyn Koonce), The Arrogant Worms, and more!!!
Songs by artists from 2:09 PM-4PM EST should include The Accidentals, Dog Sisters, Roger Ponder, Zoë Pollock, Crossword Smiles (Chipper Saam, Tom Curless, Big Stir Records), Gary Browe Music (Gary Browe), Mary Ann Kirt (Mary Ann is playing YpsiAlehouse in Ypsilanti, Michigan this Friday!), Seattle Jazz artist Billy Brandt Music (William Brandt), Emily Kinney Music, brand new Eyelids, Clannad Irish Band, Steven Bradley, and more!!!
So grab a pumpkin spicy something and a towel to wipe your brow with, get a friend or two to listen or share anxiety with, and come along for the ride on this Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EDT with Phil Maq!

Phil’s Faves: Songs, October 23, 2022

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

This list forms the basis of my countdown list on the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my show on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Albums” lists!
