Phil’s Faves: Albums, July 17, 2022

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

Phil’s Faves: Songs, July 17, 2022

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET!

Bugapalooza 2022, Wednesday from 12PM-4PM EDT!!!

We may not think about them very often, but they are relentless.

Most of them are always at work 24/7.
The only time we really think about them is if we have an encounter with one–especially if it’s in the house.
What am I talking about?
Bugs, of course!
Why are we talking about them?
Well, it’s time for “Bugapalooza 2022” on this week’s “Theme Attic” with host Phil Maq from 12PM-4PM EDT!!!
There are many more insects than humans, and even if most are necessary, some have been the subject of many interesting songs and stories!
We’ll explore some of that “buggy” music, and there will definitely be more bugs than ever this year!
I mean, it’s a four hour show!
However, we will pause for a Top 9 at 2:09 to take a break for the squeamish!
It’s all in good fun!
And the numbers are pretty good for a non showcase week:
6 artist debuts, 2 new releases, 2 unreleased, 9 artists with Southeast Michigan ties!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate. I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
Songs by artists from 2:09 to 4PM EDT should include brand new unreleased Ben Harper, Rod Johnson, Bill Edwards (Edwardsongs), Lyn Stanley Jazz Recording Artist, Carolyn Wonderland (Her album cover for “Tempting Fate” is in the upper left corner of the banner!), The Armoires, Michael J. Miles, brand new Ann Beretta, Hurricane Ruth (Her album cover for “Ain’t Ready for the Grave” is on the right of the banner!), Johnny Iguana, Rick Hromadka, The Joedai Warriors (Joe Peters & Friends), WT Davidson, Liz E. Brooks, Joanie Leeds, Odds Lane, Eric Harrison – Singer-Songwriter, Andy Cohen Blues Player, Nancy Wright, Southern Culture on the Skids, Ray Bonneville Music, Jonathan Richman, and many more!!!
So grab a critter catcher, get a friend or two to listen or share with, and come along for the ride on this special show Wednesday from 12PM-4PM EDT with Phil Maq!
OUR NEW ANTENNA MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO HEAR THE SHOW ALL OVER THE METRO DEARBORN-DETROIT AREA BY TUNING INTO 89.3 WHFR.FM!
However, you can also stream the show from the “listen live button” on the www.WHFR.FM website, by the TuneIn App, Simple Radio App, download the 89.3 WHFR.FM android app from our website homepage, or ask Alexa to find it for you!

It’s the 21st Semi-Annual Theme Attic Hall of Fame Show, Wednesday, 12PM-4PM EDT!!!

The Semi-Annual Theme Attic Hall of Fame Show has come of age!
Er. Not really because it happens twice a year!
But that’s ok!
It’s one of two times I allow myself to roam through the archives of the legends in the Theme Attic Hall of Fame and it’s on Wednesday from 12PM-4PM EDT with host Phil Maq!!!
Since each show I do includes new music AND artist debuts, I will lay it out that the opener is Gordonville, USA, and the grand finale is by Victorius!!!
Everything in between will include a super wide variety of artists (one song only!) from The Kingston Trio to The Go-Go’s!
From The Mills Brothers, Mahalia Jackson and Mary Chapin Carpenter to Classic Rock artists like Steppenwolf – Band, Ten Years After – Band, Humble Pie, The Zombies, Carlos Santana, and a batch of classic Detroit rockers like The Frost, MC5, Savage Grace, SRC, and Iggy And The Stooges!!!
I like to dig deep so there might be plenty of songs you haven’t heard before, but there should be enough to keep any avid fan of the legends engaged!!!
So turn the lava lamp on, get a friend or two to listen or share with, and come along for the ride on this special show Wednesday from 12PM-4PM EDT with Phil Maq!

Phil’s Faves: Albums, June 26, 2022

There’s plenty of other musical things to browse!

Another list that you might find interesting is my list for “The Most Awesomest Songs of the Day”: https://philmaq.com/most-awesomest-songs/!

If you’d like to know what I think are even better than the awesome songs, have a look at “The Greatest Songs Ever Recorded”:https://philmaq.com/the-greatest-songs-ever-recorded/! Occasionally, an “awesome song” crosses over to become a “Greatest Song!”
