Phil’s Faves: Albums, September 26, 2021

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 2PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

Phil’s Faves: Songs, September 26, 2021

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 1PM-4PM ET!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

Theme Attic” Expands to Three Hours!!!

by

Phil Maq

In addition to the other shows returning to the WHFR airwaves, a station staple is expanding to a third hour.

“Theme Attic,” with DJ Host Phil Maq—now in its eleventh year, will continue to supply its offbeat mixture of eccentric and eclectic Rock, Blues, Folk, Jazz, and too many other genres to mention!

They all get wrapped around a musical subject on Wednesdays from 1PM-4PM ET! The songs will lean heavily on new and/or independent artists, and many will be local!

Some selectively aged “nuggets” will also make an occasional appearance!

Plus, there will most often be some kind of countdown! Tune in for a weekly “Theme Attic” musical sojourn on Wednesdays from 1PM-4PM ET to explore music and styles in a fun and inventive way!

The 2021 Summer New Music Showcase #3, Wednesday, from 2PM-4:30 PM EDT!!!

Summer is winding down, but I still have time to squeeze in another “2021 Summer New Music Showcase #3” on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 2PM-430 PM EDT with host Phil Maq!!!
There will also be a Faves Album Top 9 at 2:09 Countdown!
Remember that a New Music Showcase doesn’t necessarily mean something that is “brand new.” It just has to be new to the show.
That being said, every song I play will be for the first time!
There are 17 artists I’ve never played before, 9 artists are from the Southeast Michigan region, and 20 selections are from within the past year!!!
Now that’s what I call a New Music Showcase!
Songs by artists will include Amilia K Spicer Music, Getters, Bob Malone (His new album “Good People” is second from the right in the banner!), Spirit of 74, Analea Brown, Gerard Smith (His new album “Lullabies in an Ancient Tongue” is third from the right in the banner!), Julianne Ankley, Julianne Ankley & The Rogues, Eric Harrison – Singer-Songwriter, Matt Watroba (His album cover for–(deep breath), “The Far Si: The Si Kahn Funny Song Sing-Along Song Book” is second from the left in the banner!), DeeCRACKS, Ruth and Max Bloomquist, Rod Johnson (His brand new album, “Looking for a Perfect Trip” is in the banner, furthest on the left!), Tom Alter Music, Joe Peters & Friends with Melanie Hahn-Greene, Judith Hill (Her album, “Baby, I’m Hollywood” is third from the left in the banner!), The Regulators, How To Live Together, Kiss the Tiger (Their album cover for “Vicious Kid” is furthest on the right in the banner!), June IND, Daryl Shawn, The Chills, Anthony Arya Music, Robin Tucker, The Bennett Brothers, Twin Peaks, Nick Moss Band, Charlie Bedford, Linda Hicks, Carl Caballero, and a world premiere from some guy named Phil Maq (his picture is in the upper left corner!) with David Roof and Michael Kelsey!!!
Grab a comfortable chair, a couple of friends to listen with, and come along for the ride Wednesday from 2PM-430PM EDT with Phil Maq!
Tune in to 89.3 WHFR.FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area, ask Alexa or Siri to find the station for you, download the WHFR app, or use this special No.3 Showcase link : https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/ to stream it!!!
