Phil’s Faves: Videos, September 9, 2012

This will be a personal weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best videos currently available on TV. I don’t, as a rule, go searching for old music videos, so that’s why it will focus mostly on current or recent videos. For this category, I am also going to include any live performances on talk or variety shows that I see during the week.

Top 10 Videos and Performances for the week of September 9, 2012

1. Come Over—Kenny Chesney
2. 50 Ways to Say Goodbye—Train
3. One More Night—Maroon 5 with Adam Levine
4. Takin’ Pills—The Pistol Annies
5. Pontoon—Little Big Town
6. Lovin’ You Is Fun—Easton Corbin
7. She’s So Mean—Matchbox 20
8. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together—Taylor Swift
9. The Wind—Zac Brown Band
10. Blow Me (One Last Kiss)—Pink

1) “Come Over”—I am not a big Kenny Chesney fan but I like this video and the song. There’s something—maybe even subliminal about that repetitious singing of Come over Come Over Come Over…!
2) “50 Ways to Say Goodbye”Train doesn’t seem to be ready to say goodbye yet, and I’m OK with that. I mean how many videos have David Hasselhoff singing into an ear of corn?!
3) “One More Night”—I’m not sure that Adam Levine and Maroon 5 have enough stamina to take their video to the top, but I guess we’ll see…….
4) “Takin’ Pills”—All of a sudden I’m not seeing this video very often. That will not be good for The Pistol Annies…..
5) “Pontoon”—Wow! Little Big Town are moving up again on CMT! I’m really happy for them because I still watch “Pontoon” every time it comes on!
6) “Lovin’ You Is Fun”Corbin Easton has another one of those fun summer videos! I hope it catches on……
7) “She’s So Mean”—I’m starting to lose interest in this Matchbox 20 video…………..
8) “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”—In spite of the fact that this is Taylor Swift’s first Billboard #1 song, I don’t think it’s very good and is probably a “bear” song from her upcoming release, “Red.” What I do like is the fact that it’s all done as a one take video. It took 18 tries, but I like the concept! I have to give her credit for that.
9) “The Wind”Zac Brown and his band may be getting ready to say goodbye from my list, which is disappointing. I mean, how many years was “Colder Weather” on CMT’s countdown. It isn’t fair, but as much as I personally like the video, it may not have helped to promote the song had it been a “normal” video.
10) “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)”—I know Pink’s video flew up VH1’s countdown chart, but I don’t think it’s one of her classic videos. The song definitely isn’t………..
