S.O.S.: The Brazilian Johnsons, The Police, and The Five Royales!!!

The Brazilian Johnsons, from Brooklyn, NY, have put out a tight album (“Howdy Duty”) of music that used to be called classic rock. Featuring a tight rhythm section, good syncopation, nice guitars, funky keyboards, and a very soulful sound, “S.O.S.” is a very hyperactive rock song!

To me, the song that really broke The Police on the music scene was “Message in a bottle.” This classic had all of the band’s attributes in one song: the slight reggae beat, great storytelling, a “message” song that most people could relate to, and a super catchy chorus. All of that combined make “Message in a Bottle” one of the greatest songs ever recorded! [GSER]

The Five Royales [Hall of Fame] will be entering The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next week, but they will be entering the “Theme Attic” Hall of Fame on today’s show. The group was a cross between doo-wop and earl rock that featured great gospel style harmonies. The band also featured the stinging guitar lines of Lowman “Pete Pauling. “Think” is my favorite Five Royales song!
