One of the Greatest Songs Ever Recorded: “Real Love” by Wolf B. Reuter!!!

For as long as I’ve been on the radio, and definitely for as long as I’ve been writing a blog, I will occasionally make a reference to a song being “One of the Greatest Songs Ever Recorded!” (GSER)

I would usually follow that by saying that I would eventually start a category for it, but then never get around to it.

Well, now I’m getting around to it!

It will pretty much follow the pattern of The Most Awesomest Song of the Day.

I’ll select a song to celebrate and then give my thoughts about it. Nothing really brand new here that hasn’t been done before. But since I have a website, I can collect them and lay out what my own greatest songs are.

My radio show, “Prime Time Theme Attic,”  is on Monday nights 8PM-10PM ET but is on hiatus because of the pandemic.

Here’s the link for when the show returns: http://rdo.fm/r/4qntu )

Even though I always emphasize new music and artists, it’s always fun to take a short drive through the legendary artists, since they influenced those other artists!

But a song doesn’t have to be old or done by a legendary Theme Attic Hall of Fame member to be thus honored.

I can think of several songs that are only a few years old or less that I could identify as One of the Greatest Songs Ever Recorded.

This will be fun, and hopefully you will join me on my journey…at least sometimes!

I wanted to pick a song today that had a special John Lennon connection without it having a heavy, sad feeling.

I couldn’t decide on a Beatles song, or a solo Lennon one, and I wasn’t sure what to do.

Then I ran across Wolf B. Reuter’s new album release, “Hour of the Wolf!”

In the track listing, I noticed that one of the songs was called “Real Love.”

I thought there’s no way they would attempt a “Beatles Anthology” song!

Happily, I was wrong…and pleasantly surprised!

In the very nice liner note booklet, Wolf explained that he wanted to record the song because he was disappointed in the sonic quality of The Beatles, “Real Love” version.

He’s correct.

No matter how hard Jeff Lynne worked on the track, he could never bring John Lennon’s poor quality demo tape to anywhere near the studio sound of Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, the remaining Beatles who worked to bring John’s song to life.

I’m sure that it was the best that could be done at the time.

However, if you listen really closely or with headphones, you can clearly hear the difference.

The Beatles version of “Real Love” is phenomenal on its own, and will be the subject of a post some other time!

But I have to respect someone willing to tackle the legendary, otherworldly band!

Right from the opening “Strawberry Fields” mellotron opening by David Roof, “Real Love” comes pretty close to the original, and sonically surpasses it!

Roof also plays slide guitar, piano, and bass.

Dave’s piano fills are outstanding, and immensely add to the final result!

Hour of the Wolf” was also recorded at Rooftop Recording, David Roof’s studio!

Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Dave Solo supplied lead acoustic guitar to the mix!

I was also pleased to find a personal video highlighting many events in John Lennon’s
life–some taken from the traveling Magical History Tour exhibit, to accompany the music! (I haven’t figured out what to do with my own batch of pictures! I’m jealous!)

Wolf, who also played the drums and acoustic guitar, and does a fine job on vocals as well, has included some of his memories taken over the years, including one he took with Yoko Ono!

The video and song totally lifted my spirits, and I am happy to share them with anyone who reads this post!

This is one of the best Beatle covers I’ve ever heard!

One of the Greatest Songs Ever Recorded is “Real Love” by Wolf B. Reuter!!!

I think John would have approved!
