The Most Awesomest Song of the Day: “Under the Moon” by Miss Sophie Lee and The Parish Suites!!!

I have a feature to recognize a slice of good music: The Most Awesomest Song of the Day!

Here’s a link to the complete list: https://philmaq.com/most-awesomest-songs/

I want to emphasize mostly, relatively newer music, just like on my weekly “Theme Attic” show, Wednesdays, from 12PM-4PM ET!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

If you’d like to know what I think are even better than the awesome songs, have a look at “The Greatest Songs Ever Recorded”:https://philmaq.com/the-greatest-songs-ever-recorded/! Occasionally, an “awesome song” crosses over to become a “Greatest Song!”

But I can promise this: I will not force my selections. If something doesn’t hit me, I won’t post one.

Everything I do has always been about shining a spotlight on the artist and their music.

Now I will have the potential to shine 365 more spotlights if I want to!

A track from a 2019 Philby Award winning album, (The Philby is my recognition for brilliant musical achievement!), Traverse This Universe, is the choice for tonight’s Full Moon Tune!

“Under the Moon” by Miss Sophie Lee and The Parish Suites is a kind of ska/reggae flavored ballad that centers around a September Moon.

The horn arrangement and instrumental sections are superb and often are interjected by some soulful organ!

Miss Sophie Lee’s sultry, playful vocal is equally matched by one hot trumpet solo!

It’s a refreshing listen on a fading, yet warm, September Summer night!

The Most Awesomest Song of the Day is “Under the Moon by Miss Sophie Lee and The Parish Suites!!!

Phil’s Faves: Albums, September 4, 2022

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

Phil’s Faves: Songs, September 4, 2022

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

Back to School 2022

Most students have already started school.
But it is a “Theme Attic” tradition not to do the “Back to School” show until the Wednesday after Labor Day.
So, let’s take a trip to our buildings of higher education this Wednesday with host Phil Maq from 12PM-6PM EDT!!!
Yes, you did read that correctly because I’ll be cleaning some jazz erasers from 4PM-6PM!
For this special occasion, I have scheduled a Top 9 at 2:09 EDT Countdown of this week’s Phil’s Fave Albums, as well as inducting new Theme Attic Hall of Fame members Bill Haley and His Comets, Freddie Hubbard – Blue Note Records, and a Happy Birthday tribute to Buddy Holly!!!
Their will be a mostly fun mixture of classic and newer tracks to enjoy! But let’s face it: The best songs about going to school were written long ago!
This week’s stats are: 6 artist debuts, 3 new releases, 11 artists with Southeast Michigan ties!!!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate. I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
Songs by artists from 2:09PM-4PM EDT should include The Armoires (Big Stir Records), George Stephen Kelly, Jon Shain, Julianne Ankley, Julianne Ankley & The Rogues (Her album cover-(A self portrait!) is in the center of the banner!), The Joedai Warriors (Joe Peters & Friends), Sultans of String, The Legal Matters (Futureman Records), Michael Kelsey, Liz E. Brooks, Eric Gnezda – Songwriter and Speaker, Mike Latini Music, Ben Levin Piano, Devon Allman, brand new I N S T Y N K T, Suzy Bogguss Music, Tommy Z, and more!!!
When things shift to Jazz around 4PM until 6PM EDT, the school theme is over and things shift to Jeff Scott Music, Lyn Stanley Jazz Recording Artist, Frank Sinatra, Billy W. Brandt,  the induction of Freddie Hubbard – Blue Note Records, and many more!!!
So grab some #2 pencils and some page protectors, get a friend or two to listen or share with, and come along for the ride on this Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-6PM EDT with Phil Maq!
OUR NEW ANTENNA MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO HEAR THE SHOW ALL OVER THE METRO DEARBORN-DETROIT AREA BY TUNING INTO 89.3 WHFR.FM!
However, you can also stream the show from the “listen live button” on the www.WHFR.FM website, by the TuneIn App, Simple Radio App, download the 89.3 WHFR.FM android app from our website homepage, or ask Alexa to find it for you!

Phil’s Faves: Albums, August 14, 2022

There’s plenty of other musical things to browse!

Another list that you might find interesting is my list for “The Most Awesomest Songs of the Day”: https://philmaq.com/most-awesomest-songs/!

If you’d like to know what I think are even better than the awesome songs, have a look at “The Greatest Songs Ever Recorded”:https://philmaq.com/the-greatest-songs-ever-recorded/! Occasionally, an “awesome song” crosses over to become a “Greatest Song!”

Lastly, but most importantly, is my Philby Awards link! A Philby is my annual award for outstanding musical achievement! https://philmaq.com/philbys/!
