It’s the 24th Semi-Annual Theme Attic Hall of Fame

The day that possibly has the most energy is Thanksgiving Eve!
Known for being a good party night (and good reunion night, it seems that it should be the perfect day to have one of the Semi-Annual “Theme Attic” Hall of Fame Shows on Wednesday from 12PM-4PM EST, with your host Phil Maq!
It also gives us the chance to listen to the legendary giants that influenced many musical artists over the years!
I often dig fairly deep to play many tracks that are pretty much unknown!
Of course, there will also be some classics, too!
It wouldn’t be a Hall of Fame show without them!
Stats are typical HOF show normal: 2 artist debuts, 2 new releases, 5 artists with Southeast Michigan ties, and 2 singles!
I will also attempt to do a most interesting “Top 9 at 2:09!” We’ll see if it works.
An opener by On Being an Angel, and the closer is from Lizzie No!
Throughout the show, there will be a wide variety of music by exceptional artists from all eras!
So, grab noisemaker, get a friend or two to listen with, and come along for Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EST with Phil Maq!!!

Phil’s Faves: Albums, November 12, 2023

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

There’s plenty of other musical things to browse!

A list that you might find interesting is my list for “The Most Awesomest Songs of the Day”: https://philmaq.com/most-awesomest-songs/!

If you’d like to know what I think are even better than the awesome songs, have a look at “The Greatest Songs Ever Recorded”:https://philmaq.com/the-greatest-songs-ever-recorded/! Occasionally, an “awesome song” crosses over to become a “Greatest Song!”

My somewhat unusual Hall of Fame can be explored here: https://philmaq.com/hall-of-fame/!

Lastly, but most importantly, is my Philby Awards link! A Philby is my annual award for brilliant musical achievement! https://philmaq.com/philbys/!

Phil’s Faves: Songs, November 12, 2023

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 12PM-4PM ET!

The show can be heard on WHFR 89.3 FM in the Dearborn-Detroit area of Michigan, or it can be streamed with this link: https://www.whfr.fm/streamer/!

This list forms the basis of my countdown list on the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my show on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Albums” lists!

The 2023 Second Fall New Music Showcase, on Wednesday’s “Theme Attic,” 12PM-4PM EST!!!

The year is winding down (or is it up?) so there are only two New Music Showcases of 2023 left starting with Wednesday’s “Theme Attic,” from 12PM-4PM EST!
Everything will be music I have never played before…with 1 exception, made for supporting a local show!
The numbers are great: 28 new artists, 28 new releases, 11 artists with Southeast Michigan ties, 2 unreleased, and 8 singles!
A Top 9 at 2:09 of this week’s albums will add to the exploration!
It’s a GREAT day to find some new music to listen to of many varieties!
I will divide the tags into sections, but they will only be an estimate.
I can’t guarantee that everything will fit into those slots, but I will try very hard to stick to them!
However…they are NOT in sequential order. (I often make changes during the show!)
Songs by artists between 12PM-209 PM EST should include Root Cellar Xtract, Rubblebucket, DEAD STAR TALK, Burnouts From Outer Space, Devon Thompson, Michelle Held, Dave McMurray, Rose Gray & Kungs, Jerry Leger, Baby Jey, Odetta Hartman, Strabe, Slice, Carla Olson (Her New album is in the Banner on the right!), Positioner, Pip Blom, Alien Nosejob, The Lunar Laugh (Big Stir Records), Warren Teagarden and The Good Grief, Band Of Silver, Sofiane Pamart, and more!!!
Songs by artists from 2:09 PM to 4PM EST should include Billy Brandt and the Sugaree’s (Billy Brandt is playing Cadieux Cafe in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday night!), David Caruso, Wendy Webb (Her new “Silver Lining” album is in the middle of the banner!), Sunny Bleau and The Moons (Sunny is playing Lakeville Station in Leonard, Michigan this Saturday!) Bob Malone (Friends Who Like Bob Malone), orianthi (Orianthi is playing The Token Lounge in Westland, Michigan this Friday!), Bill Edwards (Bill’s new album cover, “So Far” is on the right in the banner!), The Stranglers (Official), The Stone Souls, Opium Moon (Their album cover for “Where We Are Gathered” is on the left in the banner!), unreleased Annie & Rod Capps (Annie and Rod Capps Band w/ Ellis and M.E. are playing Trinity House Theatre in Livonia, Michigan this Saturday!), Milan Seth (Milan’s new album cover for “Can’t Find the Words” is second from the left in the banner!), Signal Flags, Rolling Numbers (Their new “Killer Machines” is in the middle of the banner!), Rum Ragged, Divining Rod, and more!!!
So, grab a pen and paper to jot some notes (old school still works for me), get a friend to listen with, and come along for Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” from 12PM-4PM EDT with Phil Maq!!!

“The Malt Shop” with Phil Maq Sets the Wayback Machine to November 13, 1969, Monday, 2PM-4PM EST!!!

I, Phil Maq, will be filling in for Daddy G today, on “The Malt Shop,” between 2PM-4PM EST!!!

I always try to make the visit a special one, and today I have a WKNR Top 31 Countdown from November 13, 1969!
That’s 54 Years Ago!!!
Each music list is a snapshot of the music scene on that day, and I will be playing several favorites, some songs I haven’t heard in quite a while as well as some songs I don’t even Know!!!
There will be at least 7 local artists (Some pretty big ones!) and about 15 artists I have never played on any of my shows!
There’s a wide variety of music, too: reggae, r&b, proto punk, a forgotten instrumental, soundtrack songs, a Beatle song–by not by The Beatles, country flavored tunes, and so much more!!!
It’s a blast from the past that hopefully brings back some good memories!!
So, put your listening cap on get a friend to listen with, and come along for Monday’s “Malt Shop” from 2PM-4PM EST with Phil Maq!!!
