Phil’s Maq’s Ten Rotation Albums (“New”), Introduction

A couple of weeks ago, WHFR DJ, Mrs. Robinson (“One Plus One Show” heard Sunday Nights from 9PM- 12 Midnight ET), nominated me to do a Ten Album Rotation list of albums that I still listen to. I appreciate the nomination, and I thank her for it!

The last time this came around, I really had a difficult time putting together a list of only ten albums. I know this didn’t stop other people from sharing their lists, and I did appreciate every one I saw.

It always gives some type of insight into what helped and stimulated an artist to develop into what they became and how they continue to evolve in the music world.

Like probably everyone else who put out a list but had trouble stopping at ten, I determined I could pare my choices down to twenty-five reasonable picks.

I never did publish that list.

(However, if I run across it again, I will do something with it.)

Currently, as I have been doing for a number of years, I have been posting a weekly album list of “Phil’s Faves.” You can easily find it, so why would I just post a redundant list of album covers for ten days?

So I threw that idea out.

Here’s some background on how I prepare for my shows, “Prime Time Theme Attic” heard Monday nights from 8PM-10PM ET, and “Theme Attic” heard on Wednesday mornings from 10AM-12 Noon ET.:

https://whfr.fm/streamer/

I listen to music for both of my shows on an eight gig mp3 player. As I play music that I work into the shows, I typically delete the song(s) and then add more music onto my player. Therefore, the key most often to getting a song on air from me, is to have me place it on this listening device.

It’s always in a state of flux, but it’s not about playing the newest music first. The system itself is made to actually slow the process down. I want the music to grow on me and seep into my brain.

I’m not interested in playing the newest music right now. I’m interested in playing what I consider to be the best music, preferably in a theme. That would make the choices even better!

However, I do make exceptions, and, as a result, play a lot of “newest” music.

Also, once the song is deleted, it is not forgotten. More often than not, it already is on many of my charts and Philby lists.

I currently have 323 albums on my device. It’s made up of almost totally all new albums from 2015-2018.

I can always think of a multitude of ways to slice up my musical tastes. I decided (finally), to settle on two series.

The first one will be albums that are still in my rotation beyond what I would consider to be a normal run on my music player. They are post influence forming, but are awesome nonetheless! They should have been deleted long ago to make room for other music, yet I like them so much, I break my own rules for this music.

I will post them in two ways: one as just a picture on my Facebook pages, both public and personal as the format requests.

However, I will also post them at my website www.philmaq.com, with typically some thoughts on the album. Once again, I like substance when other artists make their choices, I hope other people will enjoy my insights.

For once, I will not be placing any numerical importance to the albums. They are just beautiful exceptions!

I should also mention, that I don’t think I’ll be able to do this on a daily basis, but we’ll see.

The other series will be my personal Top Ten Influential Albums.

Phil’s Faves: Albums, April 22, 2018

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 9:09” segment of my “Prime Time Theme Attic Show,” (Mondays, 8P-10P ET) on alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

They may also turn up on my “Theme Attic Show,” (Wednesdays, 10A-12N ET)

Here’s a link:

https://whfr.fm/streamer/

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

Phil’s Faves: Songs, April 22, 2018

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio shows, “Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays, 10A-12N ET, or “Prime Time Theme Attic,” heard Mondays, 8P-10P ET!

This list forms the basis of my countdown list on the “Top 9 at 9:09” segment of my “Prime Time Theme Attic Show” on alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Albums” lists!

New Deanna Petcoff and Falcon Jane on Monday Night’s “Prime Time Theme Attic” 8PM-10PM EDT!!!

I don’t know how, but apparently, my name is out there for new artists to send me video links. Years ago, when I had more time and when music videos were more readily available on a consistent basis, I even used to do a couple of weekly video lists.

I usually send a message to the artists to end me their music instead. Occasionally, the artist even reads my response and sends me some of what I request. Theses two did, and in return, I watched and listened to what they sent me.

Both music and visuals are very good! I feel they need more attention!

Up first is Deanna Petcoff. Although her track, “Terribly True” is moody, I like it!

The second video is from Falcon Jane for her song “Go With the Flow” from her “Feelin” Freaky” album. The video is quite colorful!:

Tune in to 89.3 FM (89.3 WHFR.FM) in the Dearborn-Detroit area, stream it with our new improved stream: https://whfr.fm/streamer/ or use Tune In Player to stream it to hear these songs as part of two full hours of my “Prime Time Theme Attic” “2018 Spring New Music Showcase, Pt.1,” Monday night from 8PM-10PM EDT  with Phil Maq!!!
