“Suitest Day” Returns to Theme Attic, Wednesday, 1PM-4PM EDT!!!

So what is “Suitest Day?”
Well, tune in to “Theme Attic” this Wednesday with Phil Maq, from 1PM-4PM EDT to find out!!!
For the uninformed, “Suitest Day” is my take on “Sweetest Day.”
Rather than have another Valentine’s Day type show, I decided to swap out some letters and devote a show to pay tribute to longer pieces, 5 minutes or more, including some that fit the definition of the musical “suite.” And, as a nod to the weekend holiday, there will also be some “sweet” songs.
Well, at least “sweet” will be featured in the songs.
Don’t worry if you are scared off by the idea of long, boring pieces. Or ones with audience participation that waste time.
I don’t like those either.
Actually, not that many selections will be really long. And don’t forget that a suite can be made up of several interconnected, and sometimes, short sections!
I think it’s a nice mixture of tunes!
And there’s also a Top 9 at 2:09 that will be an exception to all of those parameters!

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 2:09” segment of my “Theme Attic Show,” Wednesdays 1PM-4PM ET on mostly alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

Phil’s Faves: Songs, October 3, 2021

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

It’s the Annual Peace Show on “Theme Attic,” Wednesday From 1PM-4PM EDT!!!

When I started at WHFR, the station was preparing for a theme week for peace.
I was surprised that some of the staff were having a problem coming up with song ideas.
I thought about it, and I realized that everyone was being too literal about the subject. They were only considering songs that had “peace” in the title.
So, every year, I do my best to bring a variety of songs that bring a peace and love vibe to the show, but things still can get serious.
Wednesday’s “Theme Attic” with Phil Maq from 1PM-4PM EDT will deliver mostly peace related music with a few exceptions.
Most of those will occur during the Phil’s Faves Top 9 at 2:09 Album Countdown.

This is my favorite part of Summer!
Yeah! I know what I said.

In addition to the other shows returning to the WHFR airwaves, a station staple is expanding to a third hour.

“Theme Attic,” with DJ Host Phil Maq—now in its eleventh year, will continue to supply its offbeat mixture of eccentric and eclectic Rock, Blues, Folk, Jazz, and too many other genres to mention!

They all get wrapped around a musical subject on Wednesdays from 1PM-4PM ET! The songs will lean heavily on new and/or independent artists, and many will be local!

Some selectively aged “nuggets” will also make an occasional appearance!

Phil’s Faves: Songs, September 19, 2021

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio show, “Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays 2PM-4PM ET!
