Phil’s Faves: Albums, March 17, 2019

Over time, my listening habits have changed and at the moment I usually listen to albums completely through. I haven’t done that in years, but it’s actually very rewarding—particularly when the album is good. Every album that will be on this list will fit that category.

Songs from the albums on this list forms the basis of my countdown list for the “Top 9 at 9:09” segment of my “Prime Time Theme Attic Show,” (Mondays, 8P-10P ET) on alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Songs” lists!

They may also turn up on my “Theme Attic Show,” (Wednesdays, 10A-12N ET)

Here’s a link:

https://whfr.fm/streamer/

It’s another peak into my listening habits—which is a goal of mine. If you want to know where I’m heading or what I think about some new music, you will find it here.

I honestly don’t expect there to be much volatility on this list because these albums are what I have been basing many of the sets on my show.

Once again, there will be no boundaries. I will go wherever my musical muse takes me.

Phil’s Faves: Songs, March 17, 2019

This is a weekly Top Ten list of what I consider to be the best songs that I listened to the previous week. Most songs will be current, but there are no boundaries. I’ve already stated on this web site that I am obsessed with music. I am constantly hunting it down whether it’s online, on CD, from my personal collection, from a library (Yes, I think the library is a great source of music–especially for music that you aren’t sure about.), TV, or radio. Since most of these sources mostly emphasize new music, the odds are pretty good that most of the songs on this list will be new. But in my search, I don’t use any boundaries for the other sources. I am just looking for good music that I haven’t heard, or happened to forget about. Everyone, including myself, has forgotten way more great music than they can ever remember-even if they are also music fanatics.

Also, there will be no rules concerning songs on this list. A song can show up or drop off a number of times. This will be the most volatile of my lists. It all depends on how much music I am exposed to during the week and what I find interesting. On really obscure stuff, I will try to include the source, if I know it.

Most of the songs heard on this list have been played on my radio shows, “Theme Attic,” heard Wednesdays, 10A-12N ET, or “Prime Time Theme Attic,” heard Mondays, 8P-10P ET!

This list forms the basis of my countdown list on the “Top 9 at 9:09” segment of my “Prime Time Theme Attic Show” on alternating weeks, along with my “Phil’s Faves, Albums” lists!

Calling All Music Nuts! I Need Your Help for Radiothon 2019!!!

This message goes out to all of my music friends and/or soon to be music friends!!!

I am NOT looking for musical performers.

I AM LOOKING for people to visit on my shows during Radiothon week!

I would like to have a special guest with me in studio for each show. We’ll talk music, spin some songs, and grovel a little bit.

But I will try to make it fun!!!

We can talk and play your music, someone else’s music, help me put someone in the Theme Attic Hall of Fame, or just talk music in general!

There’s also the phone-in option as a guest to make a visit!

No reasonable offer will be refused if I can work it out!

So, it’s almost that time: WHFR Radiothon 2019!!!

If you are unfamiliar with Radiothon, it’s the one week that the mostly public financed station focuses on to raise funds to keep WHFR on the air.

Every donation is important!

There’s plenty of special events and guests that take place to entice listeners to donate.

I like to have an all star type of event and I’m doing two shows:

Monday night, April 8th, 8PM-10PM EDT and

Wednesday morning, April 10th, 10AM-12 PM EDT.

I would like to have studio help for each of those shows.

Please send an e-mail to me at phil@philmaq.com or contact me through Facebook.

But, time is running out, so, please help me to plan these special events!!!

I look forward to your responses for a successful Radiothon!!!

“Theme Attic” Honors Women Artists for Women’s History Month, Wednesday Morning, 10AM-12PM EDT!!!

I like to do a show for International Women’s Day, but since I attended the MAB – Michigan Association of Broadcasters conference last Wednesday, I wasn’t able to put one together.

I still want to honor the great women artists that are out there and I will use the umbrella of Women’s History Month to do so on Wednesday Morning’s “Theme Attic” with Phil Maq from 10AM-12PM EDT!!!

These will not be wimpy love songs.

Most of the songs will be written from a perspective that only a woman can provide!

Now, this is just a minute portion of women making music, but I think it’s a nice cross section. I do have the men represented with a song by JEFF The Brotherhood, but other than that, and a new unreleased song by the local duo Escaping Pavement from their album “Road Warrior,” (Album cover is in the lower left corner of the banner.) in advance of their release party on March 22 at The Parliament Room at Otus Supply, everything else is by women!

Songs by other artists will include Weather McNabbOlivia Millerschin, a “Sarahs” set by Sarah Blacker & New England Groove AssociationSarah Jane ScoutenSarah McQuaid and Sarah Borges (Album cover for “Silver City” is on the left side of the banner in the middle.), An “Amy” set by Amy Petty (Album cover for “Mystery Keeps You” is in the upper left corner of the banner.) Amy Helm and Amy Soucy Music, new music from Karyn Oliver (Album cover for “A List of Names” is on the right on the bottom of the banner.), Erin Zindle (Album cover for “Scenes From the Fragile Agile Avian World” on the right side of the banner in the middle.), May Erlewine, Becki Digregorio of the liquid scene (Album cover for “Seven Worthies” in the upper right corner of the banner.), Vanessa CollierDeni BonetTosha Owens (Tosha Owens Music), Vanja SkyLynne HansonKatherine Moller, and more!!!
